THE BARN RETREAT, OXFORD

Syndicate West Architects are currently designing a bespoke barn refurbishment near Oxford - changing an old 'Wash House' into an intimate retreat for the client and their family.

In order to maximise the available space and minimise impact, both in terms of financial and environmental costs, the circulation strategy became the focus. A linked stair connects a north facing conservatory to a south facing terrace. This is expressed via a contemporary 'slot'. The beauty of the 185 year old 'Wash House' remains intact.
