Loughton, IG10

This client came to Syndicate West after viewing a house on the market that we had refurbished for a client in Buckhurst Hill. The client decided against buying that property, preferring one by Chingford Forest. But, they wanted to take the same design approach to their new home as they had seen in the Buckhurst Hill property.

Their new house had an extension, built in the 90s, that made the kitchen feel like a long tunnel. The client thought a side extension was necessary. After careful analysis, we suggested extending the kitchen with the insertion of a timber box at the side. This would house the main run of the kitchen, allowing space for an island unit in the centre. An opening is punched through from the lounge into the kitchen offering better circulation.

The existing French doors in the rear elevation opened on to a set of very steep brick steps, which were dangerous to a family with young children. We opted to change this into an Oriel window, with stunning views onto the garden. The Oriel window is formed from a Velfac triple glazed window arrangement and surrounded by bespoke pressed metal cladding made by Essex Laser.

The internal scheme is very simple – large format ceramic tiles, flat white walls and a bespoke kitchen made by Sebastian Aronowitz of the London Kitchen Company. The client’s subtle touches of brass iron mongery, sink tap and light fittings effectively sets off a very simple pallet.

This project was completed in Autumn 2019.
