Foresters Drive

A1970s extension did little to contribute towards the Art Deco character of this 1930s house located in Upper Walthamstow.

Our design approach was to enhance the heritage features of the property using a consistent approach to architectural design & detail. This is seen in the ply inlay that appears in the kitchen, oak flooring and exposed beams. This is further supported with Crittal type windows and doors and softening of the internal archway.

The plywood detailing in the house is carried through into the garage conversion. This existing one and a half storey outbuilding at the end of the driveway had been used as an MOD chauffeur’s hideaway during WWII. The client loved the existing brickwork and wanted to bring this building back to life by using it as a studio with a sleeping platform for the occasional guest. Reconfiguring the boundary wall connected the new studio back to the house, rather than the driveway.

As architects, it is great to be trusted by a client with total design. The finished product speaks for itself.

The project was completed in Autumn 2018.
